We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant / Tax Preparer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately preparing and reviewing tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, and conducting audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate individual and business tax returns, including federal, state, and local tax filings.
- Review financial records, such as income statements and documentation of expenditures, to determine appropriate deductions and credits.
- Research and interpret tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and identify potential tax savings strategies for clients.
- Interview clients to gather relevant information and identify their unique tax situations.
- Conduct GAAP audits by reviewing financial statements, accounting records, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP.
- Identify discrepancies, potential fraud, or errors in financial statements and recommend corrective actions.
- Assess internal controls and accounting processes to provide recommendations for improvement.
- Respond to client inquiries regarding tax and financial statement matters in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate with team members to provide comprehensive tax planning, preparation, and audit services.
- Keep up-to-date with the latest tax legislation, regulations, GAAP, and best practices.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client information.

Flex Tax’s base salary range is determined through an analysis of similar positions in the external labor market. Base pay is just one component of Flex Tax’s total compensation package for employees, and at times, we hire outside the boundaries of the salary range. Other rewards may include 3% annual sales bonuses, contributions to a 401(k), and a 5% company match on your contributions). Actual compensation for all roles will be based on work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. The base salary range for this role is $45,000 to $48,000.
Qualifications
- No experience is necessary. Interested in tax preparation and auditing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Current CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license or working towards obtaining one.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, as well as GAAP.
- Proficiency in tax preparation software (Drake), financial statement auditing tools (Caseware), and related technology.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify tax savings opportunities and financial statement discrepancies.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on providing excellent customer service.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet tight deadlines during the busy tax and audit seasons.
Job Type
- Full Time (40 hours/week)
- Work Hours: 09:00 – 18:00
- Overtime required during busy season (60 hours/week).
Training
- Training will be provided by our Audit or Tax Senior or Manager.
